Why we race and This is racing

Two very short but very powerful compilation videos on the motivation behind and the true nature of racing.
Scenes featured capture the dedication, the commitment, the dangers and the intense concentration that come into play when a person becomes one with a racing machine. It is about the connection between those two, the capability of reaching the boundaries of both and the sensation that comes with controlling something that is on the edge of being out of control.

Adrenaline fueled Brazillian highway race: R8 vs Gixxer and Ninja

An Audi R8 V10 with tuned engine control unit, transmission control unit, exhaust and air filter pushing 600 horsepower and shortened shift intervals takes on a 185 horsepower Suzuki GSXR 1000 SRAD (2009 model) and a 2008 Kawasaki Ninja ZX 10R with 188 horses at it's disposal.
The Audi driver ignores his female passenger and shows the bikers what his machine can do as the three machines start swerving vigorously through traffic on a crowded highway.
We do not by any means support this kind of irrational behavior, neither could we keep ourselves from watching the whole thing!

Stunt Grand Prix

There is a competition called the "Stunt Grand Prix" every year, with the purpose of finding out who can perform the maddest tricks on a motorcycle.
This goes way beyond wheelies and stoppies, some guys handle their 200 kg bike as if it's a skateboard! One quick enough to remove the table-cover from a fully set diner table without damage though!
After the jump we have the 2013 winner and a very nice 2012 compilation-video for you!

Ross Brawn leaving Mercedes F1

Team principal at Mercedes Niki Lauda seems to have hired 2 additional engineers to split the role of team principal. Now with his authority in the hands of others, mastermind race strategist Ross has decided to pick up and go. I mentioned him earlier this week in a social media discussion (that's right, we're hipsters!) when comparing the combination of Vettel, Horner and Newey with the old combination of Schumacher, Todt and Brawn. So this could be one of the more influential moves between teams in F1, even more than the driver changes. And where will he go? "Honda's engine devision" is whispered in hallways... In case you forgot what the man can do, check out the old interview on "Brawn GP" at "Read More".

The Reboot Buggy

On a lovely day, one man got fed up with what cars have become, so much so that he did something about it. The product designer based in Michigan built his own vehicle: the Reboot Buggy.
This awesome creation is as good on the road as it is off-road and it reminds us of what the essentials of transportation are and how the auto industry has shifted focus from those essentials. After all: "Less = More".

DSC Seat Leon Supercopa crashes hard on Assen's TT Circuit

Two weeks ago a Seat Leon Supercopa had a big crash on Assen's TT Circuit during qualifying for the Dutch Supercar Challenge, the driver broke his back in three different places. Even though they are reported as "stable fractures" with no longtime effect, we still want to wish him the best! No one wants to go through this.

Home-Built submarine

Working on your own car takes a certain level of mechanical and electrical confidence, working on your own bike requires a little more.
Imagine how much of that confidence a man has got to have when he is converting his kayak to a personal submarine and taking it under!

Track Report: Fittipaldi F5A F1 in Zolder

Lately I've been preoccupied with lots of things that are not motor-sports. Now that the season is nearing it's end again I decided to drive down to one of our local tracks and just see what was going on there these days. In context, around the year 2000 was probably the best time for racing in Belgium, the last few years the economic crisis also hit racing teams and facilities hard. I picked the Zolder Circuit since it's the shortest drive and they happened to have an international testing day scheduled. Expecting a couple of amateurs and maybe a few lower level GT4/GT3 cars, imagine the shock I got when I suddenly found myself face to face with a Fittipaldi F5A formula one car dating back to the good old days. Thank God all devices have video recording features these days! Enjoy!
